Markden Homes Supporting Local Wildlife For World Habitat Day

With World Habitat Day taking place on Monday, October 7th, we’ve decided to turn our attention from human habitats to animal ones!

Followers of our social media channels will already know that the site of our newest development – Tean Valley View in Staffordshire – has plenty of communal green areas and open spaces. Well, we’ve decided to encourage local wildlife to make their homes there too by installing a series of bird boxes and bug hotels!

Located in the peaceful village of Tean, Tean Valley View is a picturesque development of two-, three- and four-bedroom homes tucked away in the area’s beautiful moorlands. Known for its scenic views, rolling hills and charming rural character, Tean Valley View is an attractive destination for both families and professionals seeking a tranquil yet connected place to call home.

The bird boxes and bug hotel will be located around the development, ensuring they will become a popular feature among residents and visitors alike over the coming years.

Bug hotels benefit a wide variety of insects – including vital species like bees – by providing them with safe spaces in which to shelter, raise their young and hibernate, while bird boxes help maintain – or even increase – bird numbers, something which is becoming increasingly important as a lack of natural nesting sites continues to limit the size of the UK’s bird populations.

Our CEO, Mark, said: “Supporting biodiversity and encouraging the local wildlife which lives in and around our developments is extremely important to us at Markden Homes, so we’re delighted to be giving something back to the area’s birds and creepy-crawlies.

“We sincerely hope they enjoy their new homes and we can’t wait to teach residents and visitors about the benefits of our new installations!

“And that’s not all we’re doing to increase biodiversity – by maintaining and protecting the hedgerows on site, we’re on course to achieve a net gain in habitats of 6.42%!”

Established by the United Nations to draw attention to the importance of adequate housing for all, World Habitat Day calls for action to address environmental sustainability, as well as housing challenges and urban inequality.
